Some of the best running spots can be found in New York City. Whether runners wish to see amazing skyscrapers, beautiful parks or the eclectic mix of city dwellers, they will have the chance to view all of that and more when running in these four top running spots in NYC.

Central Park Reservoir Loop

Long known for being a popular route in Manhattan for local runners, the Reservoir Loop in Central Park passes by some of the city’s most iconic sites. A dirt path that was once used for horses takes runners past the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. Picturesque views of Manhattan’s towering skyline can be seen from parts of the route. One lap around the loop covers a distance of 1.6 miles with distance markers every 100 yards.

East River Run

For runners who want to see multiple NYC boroughs, the East River Run will be a perfect choice. The route takes runners from the top of Manhattan’s Central Park and across the RFK Bridge to Randall’s Island and then on to Queens. The route also passes through Astoria and across the Hell’s Gate Bridge and Queensboro Bridge. Runners then run the route in reverse to return to Manhattan. Along each way, runners are treated to views of the city’s waterfront.

Van Cortlandt Park

Situated in the Bronx just outside of Manhattan, this vast park is an ideal setting for runners who want to immerse themselves in nature. Instead of skyscrapers and crowded city streets, runners have the chance to run past tall trees that line the running paths. History buffs can also run past a house where President George Washington once slept.

Staten Island Boardwalk

This 2.5-mile long boardwalk can be reached by taking a free ferry ride from the lower tip of Manhattan. The boardwalk can be covered each way for a total distance of five miles. Along with great views of the Manhattan skyline, runners can see Miller Field and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge’s base. This route is particularly ideal for recreational runners who don’t want anything too challenging.

New York City provides many opportunities for runners to get in their workouts. By choosing the best routes, runners will be able to enjoy the most fulfilling experiences while working to stay fit.
